Our story · Made from recycled tyre crumb

Saving the world one rubber crumb at a time.

Close-up of recycled tyre crumb

Every tyre has a working life.

It carries a matatu up Thika Road before sunrise. It hauls a lorry down to Mombasa. It takes a boda boda through the rain. Thousands of kilometres of Kenyan road, and then one day the tread is gone and the tyre's job is done.

For most tyres, that's where the story ends. They pile up behind garages and on empty plots. Some are burned, and the black smoke drifts over the people living nearby. Rubber that took years to wear down can sit in the open for a very long time.

We think that rubber deserves a second life.

Berpro tiles are made from recycled tyre crumb: worn tyres broken down into small granules, then made into gym tiles here in Kenya. The rubber that once took the weight of a lorry now takes the weight of a loaded barbell.

It's one crumb at a time. But every Berpro floor is rubber that didn't end up on a heap or in a fire. It's working again, under people who are getting stronger.

Rubber Products Limited has worked with rubber in Nairobi since 1969. Turning tyres that have already given everything into floors that protect the people who train on them is one of the things we're proudest of.
